Review for Joni B. Cole's Book "Party Like It's 2044." Reviewed by: Jill Sheets   When I first started reading "Party Like it's 2044," I was a little concerned because I had trouble getting through the first essay. I had to keep going back to the beginning and start over. But, as I continued reading the essays, they became more entertaining and funny. I recommend this book to anyone who not only loves to read essays, but especially ones that are funny.

"Finding Katya" by Katie Aune Review

Review for "Finding Katya" by Katie Aune   Review By Jill Sheets   I loved this book. It is one of the best books that I have read all year. It kept my attention and proceeded at a good pace. One of the best things about reading "Finding Katya" is that you feel like you are right there traveling with her. Not only is the description of things amazing, but she gave facts about the places she visited. Places that I never or barely knew of. I learned a lot from her book. I recommend this book to anyone. I hope that she writes more books.

Chit Chatting With Catherine C. Hall  Interviewed by: Jill Sheets J: Tell us about yourself?  How did you get your start writing?  C: My start in writing came when I majored in Broadcast Journalism, learning all those great tips for newswriting and commercial writing. After I graduated, I worked in a small country music station where I was a Girl Friday to the News Director. Eventually, I became the News Director, then moved to a Top 40 radio station and handled public service announcements and local commercial copy. I much preferred writing commercials; they were a lot more fun! It was probably twenty years or so before I started writing again when I volunteered to write for my church’s newspaper. (And wouldn’t you know it? I got stuck writing the boring stuff!) J: Tell us about your book Secrets Laid to Rest. C: It’s a funny thing about this book. I was teaching and wanted to do something different for the next fifteen or twenty years. Creative writing was in the back of my mind, so

Chit Chatting with Emily Winslow

Chit Chatting with  Emily Winslow Interviewed by:  Jill Sheets J: Tell us a little bit about yourself? How did you get your start in writing? E: I wanted to write a novel for a long time, but found it difficult to even start. I won some poetry awards, and I wrote logic puzzles for a national magazine. But figuring out how to write a novel eluded me. I found writing community online at a forum called Absolute Write, and found brutal but wonderful advice from the blogging agent Miss Snark. They made all the difference to me, and pointed me in the right direction. I hope this book can help make that difference for others. J: Tell us about your book Time to Write. E: It’s everything I’ve learned about writing a novel, both from my experience as a writer published by Random House and HarperCollins, and as a teacher of creative writing at Cambridge University. J: What are some of the topics you cover in this book? E: I cover various writing skills and storytelling skills (two very different

Chit Chatting with Marilyn Howard

Chit Chatting with Marilyn Howard Interviewed by: Jill Sheets J: Tell us about yourself? How did you get your start writing? I didn't plan to be a writer, although as a teen I would joke about writing a book on life and love someday. I grew up in the 1950s, when chauvinism was rampant. My future was predetermined to be a housewife. Surrounding advice frustrated me, but writing a book was just an idle fantasy. I studied commercial art, went into business and had a family in my thirties. When in my 50s, I had to give a talk about my life, so started writing. There were many memories to capture. I continued writing for a year. My children were away at college and I finally had some time! Ten years later, I had the Eureka moment when rereading. I knew it was an astonishing story I had to share.  J: Tell us about your book The Writing on the Wall. M.  The story tells of an amazing journey where some things were stranger than fiction. It's a powerful memoir about women breaking lim

Chit Chatting with Rebecca Wenrich Wheeler  Interviewed by: Jill Sheets J: When did you decide that you wanted to be an author? R: My 2nd grade teacher, Mrs. Hodge, encouraged me to enter the Young Author’s Contest, and as they say, that’s all she wrote! I was hooked on writing. Since I was a little girl, I knew somehow I would become an author.  J: Tell us about your book When Mama Grows With Me. R: In When Mama Grows with Me, a mama and her son create their own garden, starting with just a few small seeds and ending with a beautiful display of flowers. They observe how pollinators help the earth stay healthy, learn how to care for plants, and meet other critters that live in their garden, all while playfully shaping their bodies into yoga poses inspired by nature. Not only do Mama and her son learn valuable lessons about their garden, but along the way, they also learn to practice patience.  By pairing lessons with movement, Rebecca Wheeler helps young readers make connections betwe

Chit Chatting with Alle C. Hall

Chit Chatting with Alle C. Hall Interviewed by:  Jill Sheets J: Tell us about yourself. When did you decide that you wanted to become a writer? In my early- to mid-20s, I lived in Japan. I’d been there almost three years, teaching English to support myself but not doing anything career-wise and starting to feel it. A friend of mine who had just left the editor-in—chief position  at an English-language monthly, Tokyo City Life News, mentioned that they needed an article on the Tai chi options in Tokyo, and she knew I had a serious practice. I spoke with the new editor, who told me they would pay me 30,000 yen for the piece. That was close to $300. Immediately, I thought, well, this is something I could do for the rest of my life.  J: Tell us about your book “As Far as You Can Go Before You Have to Come Back.” A: It’s about Carlie, a teenaged survivor of ongoing sexual trauma who steals ten thousand dollars from her parents with a plan to run away to Asia, travel cheaply until she turns

Chit Chatting with Claudine Wolk

Chit Chatting with Claudine Wolk Interviewed by:  Jill Sheets Tell us a little bit about yourself. How did you get into writing? Hi there, and thanks for the interview, Jill.   I’m probably like every other writer in that I’ve always liked writing and kept journals from the time I was a kid.  As an adult, I was an accountant.  I threw myself into it, became a CPA, worked for many small businesses in the Philadelphia area and then, whammo…. I became a mother.  Heck, I thought creating a cash flow statement was hard! Being a mother knocked my socks off.   The new mom phenomena that really surprised me was that no one was talking about how hard newborn care is.  I quickly learned that moms were supposed to say things like, “I’m blessed, I’m lucky, motherhood is the best thing that ever happened to me.”  Of course, in a sense, all of those things were true, but it was far from the entire story.  I loved my baby, but the hard work that went along with him, not so much.    So… I did what I

Chit Chatting with Raven Howell Interviewed by: Jill Sheets J: Tell us about yourself. R: When I’m in a classroom visit, as I was this morning, I usually introduce myself to the children with “my favorites”. My favorite season is summer, my favorite place is the seashore, my favorite sweet treats are warm chocolate and butterscotch chip cookies, my favorite color (for today, and in synch with the upcoming Halloween spirit!) is purple. I like to read, write, draw, and craft, play music, do Word Finds and Scrabble puzzles, and hike daily. I love to laugh, and hug our cat, Lilac. J: When growing up, what did you want to be?  R: As far back as I can remember, I was always writing, creating rhymes and poems. That always has been just who I am. When I was in elementary school, for a brief month or two I imagined being a veterinarian would be wonderful because I loved animals and our family always had a load of pets. I used my love of writing toward songwriting aspirations and had dreams of

I am also an Interfaith Counselor and worked in this area for years. My work has focused on integrating the teachings and practices of East and West and showing how to make them real in our everyday life. I’ve offered talks, workshops, and meditation sessions for many years. The most wonderful teachers I’ve had are my children and  grandchildren. They constantly remind me to be playful, expect the unexpected and join them in all their different journeys, with an open mind. I am starting a blog now called Turn The Page, where I hope to integrate what I have discovered in the many streams of life I’ve been in. 2) When did you start to write? What was the first thing you wrote? I started to write in Junior High, very short stories and also short plays, which I put on with

Review for “The Unshakable Road to Love” by Brenda Eshin Shoshanna Reviewed by Jill Sheets I was intrigued when I heard about this book and looked forward to reading it. When I got “The Unshakable Road to Love,” I was a little worried that I may not understand the book, which has happened before. I soon realized this book was easy to read and understand. This book flows nicely and is well-written. Brenda also added great exercises in the book to work on as you go through the book. She also added stories to her book, which I enjoyed. I liked this book, and I feel you should give it a try.

Chit Chatting with Yvonne M. Morgan

Chit Chatting with Yvonne M. Morgan Interviewed by: Jill Sheets J: Tell us about yourself. Y: Hi everyone. I’m Yvonne Morgan. A little about myself, I was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland and spent most of my summers there as I grew up and I also lived in Canada for eleven years before immigrating to the USA in 1974. I’m a mom to five children (two girls, an adopted set of twins and a son who lives in heaven). And, I’m a grandmother to five grandkids. I love Jesus, doing short-term mission trips and traveling. J: Why did you decide to become a writer? Y: I never intended to become a writer. After many years of short-term mission work, I felt God nudging me to write stories from the mission field. I laughed because I thought I was too old and I was not a writer. But the nudge would not go away. So, finally, I asked God to speak through my husband if this was really Him and not my imagination. And I told none of this to my husband. About a month later, Bill and I sat watching TV, and

Review for Gypsy of God

Review for Gypsy of God Written By: Jill Sheets   I loved the book   Gypsy for God  by author  by  Yvonne M. Morgan.    Yvonne Morgan's writing is relatable. This book has a great message. The book is wonderfully written with well-rounded characters. I couldn’t put down the book. This heart-warming book is a must-read, especially for Christians.
