When I found out that I was getting to review the Save the Cat! Online-Course Cracking the Beat Sheet, I could not wait. I was excited to start the course, so I jumped right in when I got the link.  I wondered if it would stand up to all the "hype" that I had heard.

  

To answer my question, yes, it did, more than I could have imagined. I love this course.  It is the best writing course that I have taken, and I have taken quite a few. 

 

The class is from Blake Snyder's book "Save the Cat! The Last Book on Screenwriting You'll Ever Need!" Just a heads up, you will probably want to get this book before you start the course.  They do have reading assignments from the book.

 

This course will help you write your screenplays or novels with the 15 key "story beats," which will help you develop your story's roadmap. It will guide you step by step to accomplish that goal.

 



The talented Jennifer Zhang walks us through every step of the way.  The class is easy to understand, well planned, and goes in dept. She even gives famous movie examples to help show you what they are talking about.  

 

 The one thing that I do have to warn you about is no matter how excited you are to do this course, do not sit down and do this course all at once.  It is meant to be broken up.  There is no rush, so take your time.

 

They do give you some notes after each class but do take notes on your own. This course covers a lot of materials and you do not want to miss anything.  It is also great to look over your notes when you need to. Just pause the class and start it back up when you finished taking notes. 

 






You can also get scene cards and beat cards to help you keep your writings organized and on track. They can be a great thing to help map out your writing.  

 





It doesn't matter what you write, whether it be a script or a novel, this course will be great for you.

What I Need to Hear (Review of "Write Out Loud") Written by:  Jill Sheets I have been dealing with issues with my writing for some time now, so I was excited to find the book, “Write Out Loud,” by Naomi D. Nakashima, on WOW.  I looked forward to reading the book and reviewing it. She talks about procrastination, imposter syndrome, self-doubt, confidence, starting to write the first draft of your story, and overcoming and identifying fears (just to name a few). The book covered everything that I needed to hear, read, or wondered about.  I am sure you have read something from another writer and felt they were talking to you.  That is what I felt.  This is an inspirational book that gives terrific advice and is a fast read.  I recommend this book to anyone who is a writer or wants to become one.
