I Will Never Do

I Will Never Do
Written by: Jill Sheets

We all have things that we will and will not do. We all have our boundaries. Here are 14 things that I can guarantee I will not do. Some may overlap. Just a funny side note, I had a problem coming up with what I wouldn’t do, until I decide that 14 was a good number. But now more keep popping up in my head and the bad part is that I am trying to sleep when that happens. I will have to keep a notebook by my bed from now on.

Some of you may have seen this downtown or on a busy street off in the snow-covered grass — bird scooters. Before I go more on to more details, there are some things I do not understand. Are they supposed to be ridden on the sidewalk or street? What about wearing a helmet? Body gear? I am old enough to know better to entertain the thought of using one. Even to try to stand on one, I would fall off. Just think about if I got the scooter to move? I do not need any help with hurting myself. I can run into things on my own two feet. Like into walls, chairs, people, there are many items I can talk about, but I think you understand where I am going with this.

The next one is rollercoasters. When I was a teenager, a friend talked me into going on a rollercoaster, even though I did not want to. I had never been on one, so I could not tell her if I liked them or not. But, I am afraid of heights, and let’s get real, I did not want to fall off one and go sailing to my death. We got on the rollercoaster, and they put the bar down on your lap, so you would not fall off, along with putting the shoulder bars down. I was fine until the rollercoaster went upside down. I held on as tight as I could. My upside-down body slammed into the shoulder holder. I was for sure it would give way. All of my dreams would be over before they began. I will never do that again. So before you ask… No. I will not go on one. You could not even pay me enough. Well, there is a particular interview I would love to do, so if you can get him to do one at least once a month, we may have a deal. I only say that because that is not going to happen.

The next few ones have to do with heights and what my body was not supposed to do. Many of you may feel the same way.

Let’s start with climbing a giant ladder. You must have heard the saying by Isaac Newton, “What goes up must come down,” and falling off or down a ladder does not count as safe. I like to be safe no matter what. Even the thought of it makes me want to avoid every ladder I came into contact with. If you see me on a ladder, just make sure I do not come down the hard way. Well, I guess for some it may be the easy way. Still, that is not on my to-do list.

Another height-related no-no for me is Sky-diving. I am sure that this does not happen often, but I am worried about my parachute, not opening and causing me to fall to my death as I hit the ground with such great force. Even looking at videos and pictures where the parachute does open, it still does not look like fun. I do not want to take that chance. I guess you can tell by now I am not adventurous.

I would never Bungee jump either. I do not think I could bring myself to seriously make myself dive off a bridge or something, hanging by my feet, upside down, and bounce up and down. There is also the thought of the bungee breaking. You know where I am going from here.

I get wigged out very easy. Especially when it has anything that has to do with certain creatures. I am not going to go into details. By reading the list, you will get it. Here we go:
Snakes
Worms
Slugs
Mice
Rats
 Bats
Spiders
Flies
Ants
Bugs
Cockroaches
The list goes on. There are other ones that are out there. Ones I know of and others I don’t.

I will never get on a motorcycle. I may like it if I try it, but I do not believe I will even sit on one. So I do not have to worry about it. I watch how others drive and stop right at the motorcycle’s bumper. How much damage the road and motorcycle could cause if a person fell off of it for some reason.

Not all pictures say it all. Even though I like the beach and the ocean, I will not purposely swim with sharks or any dangerous animals. That is just crazy. It is not like you are on a friendship bases, and they promised that they would not take a bite of you.

I remember the first time I saw the movie “Titanic.” I knew that it sunk, but the movie made things all too real. As the boat was going under, I kept thinking that I will never get on a boat. The problem has come up is that I am afraid of being on a plane also, and I would like to travel. So I decided that I would have to be knocked out or be given a sedative of some kind. That should fix that problem.

Speaking of movies, there is another movie that started a fear, and I will never watch or buy anything to do with clowns. That movie is Stephen King’s “It.” Now I have to close my eyes whenever I see a picture or scene in a film or show that has them in it. Clowns are evil. They do not make me laugh; instead, I want to run for it. Have you ever seen “Supernatural?” Then you would know that Sam Winchester and I share the same phobia. At least I am not alone.

I will never eat strange things. At least something I feel are strange. It just turns my stomach. Other people in many counties may feel different, but here is my list of some of the things that will never touch my lips or mouth.

First, I would like you to look up at the earlier part that talks about creatures. Those would count. Here are some other things I would never eat. They would be eyeballs, tarantula (spiders), Locusts, Chicken’s Feet, Pig feet, feet in general, Black Pudding, old eggs, old anything, grasshoppers, worms, Pickled Eggs,  crocodile, snakes, frogs, Guinea Pig or any pet.

I will never give up on my dreams. It does not matter how old I am, I will not give up.

Now for the last thing, there are just some places that I will not travel to. I remember years ago being in a Sunday school group, and they were talking about missionary groups. It was one of these “knowing me” moments. But in my head, I repeated: “God, please do not make us go to Africa or any other places that are scary.”

So these were some things I will never do. There are more, but I will have to wait until I am trying to sleep to think of them.
